The cassette tape is 50 years old today. It was introduced to make music mobile and to enable you to record from your record collection or anything else you wanted, and create your own mix tapes. Even when CD’s became available it was in the early days the only way to record your own compilations. Tapes were the earliest form of music sharing and a great way of swapping compilations to discover new bands or hear live concert recordings.
I still have a large collection of tapes mainly from the late 70’s & 80’s & early 90’s. Despite being regarded as a dead media bands are still releasing cassettes for limited releases and to gain cult status.
