The Miraculous is the third album from Sweden’s Anna Von Hausswolff and a follow up to the epic Ceremony album. As soon as you hear the first strains of the familiar church organ on Discovery the hairs will rise on Your neck as a tingle goes down Your spine. The song encapsulates the same brilliance as Dead Can Dance as the song swirls around every cavity of the skull for the first 4.30 mins and then it morphs effortlessly in a demonstration of ethereal vocal magnificence. Beautiful! The Hope Only Of Empty Men continues like the motion like horror tinged saw blade through the aural sense. Lovely! Pomperipossa may only be just over 2 minutes long but like banshee Anna will have Your soul possessed. Epic! Come Wander With Me/ Deliverance
if this song was in a filmscore it would easily be oscar nominated such is the brilliance of its composition. Vocally reaching the same enthralling level of Lisa Gerrard or Diamanda Gallas before transforming into a ritualistic darkclad disturbing dirge with a hint of Luger before swinging back with vocal mania of Lena Lovich and Kate Bush spliced together. Sheer Brilliance! Love it! En Emsam Vandrare has an ambience of Twin Peaks colliding with the darkside of the music of Echo & The Bunnymen. Wow! An Oath – damn infectious loop, dark pop brilliance with perhaps a hint of Lone Justice/ Throwing Muses. Magnificent! Evocation
from the opening sirenlike vocal and the sonic vocal soundscape almost like an angelic herald for the apocalypse. Love it! The Miraculous is without doubt the most Gothic track Anna has recorded which captures perfectly the true spirit in name and sound of the album almost has a hint of John Carpenter. Great! Stranger an angelic dark ballard which reminds me a bit of The Walkabaouts and brings to an end what is easily Anna’s best album so far easily a 13 out of 10!
