Hi

I saw a couple weeks ago by Mixcloud (no email sent from them) that to continue having the same access and sharing ability I would need to upgrade to PRO. It claims there is 70% off if I upgrade to PRO before the end of November. When you click in the link and select year pay annually the cost is €50 and I save €22/$22. So the full price if paid annually would be €72($135) 70 % of €72 = €50.40 so the price should be €21.60. They now have made this clear it is only for 3 months if you pay monthly. So €1.80($4.50) instead of €6.00($15.00). Total normal cost for a full year is $157 yearly or paid monthly $180 (more expensive compared to Euro figures usd to euro rate 0.97 19/11/22). As you can see based on Mixclouds currency conversion it looks like a rip off in dollars. Mixcloud is doing it as the business is no longer profitable in the old model due to hosting and paying royalties to artists.

Also my involvement in music is firstly based on the love of it, and the financial reward is the never the main point as nice as it is to get paid. The €72/$180 fee is money that I would not be spending on supporting bands. I appreciate you might be able to make money on Mixcloud but you need about a 1000 subscribers with the majority upgrading to the pay service at a current cost of €7.99 to maybe break even.

So if I don’t upgrade it will mean I will only be able to have the embedded music player on my website and to notify followers of new streams, shows and tracks. So sharing will be via my website. I will only be able to have a maximum of 10 active mixes otherwise I will not be able to upload any new ones. If I do nothing they say no mixes will be deleted.

So at the moment I am considering deleting 10 years of mixes and keep a few popular ones. I have all the mixes saved anyway. I have often had people complaining about mixcloud and I have noticed uploading has been a problem over the last 12-18 months
along with loss in sound quality of mixes before they introduced the HQ for paid Pro. Recently I have been listening to 40 year old Chrome tapes on my Walkman and the quality is better than most streaming services. So if anyone wants a copy of an old mix leave me a message on this post and I will upload it to soundcloud for you to download free of charge as the bands would have had their royalties according to mixcloud. Most mixes don’t get a lot of play after 3 months so I can understand they take up space on mixclouds server.

Also one other pain the arse is uploading track listing and indexing. Very non user friendly especially deleting a track listed  when something goes wrong in adjusting the track list. Mixcloud also adds irrelevant mixes into your play queue which is damn annoying especially when it is shit no-one has an interest in.

On this post I will capture the highlights of the mixes and the tracklist and artwork will still remain on my website.
